Open Water Swim

When I am swimming in the ocean and my watch asks me if I want to record an open water swim, the touch screen seems to be frozen so that I can't acknowledge that either I do or don't want to record. Is there a way to acknowledge that I want to record the swim?

If it’s a cellular model, maybe try using hey Siri.

If you turned on Water Lock prior to entering the water, then the display will be locked as you describe (it prevents splashes from being registered as touches).

One approach is to enable the workout before engaging Water Lock. Siri probably also works, as described above.
