OpenAI today announced the launch of ChatGPT Pro, a $200 per month subscription service that provides unlimited access to OpenAI o1, the company's newest and most advanced large language model.

The plan includes unlimited use of OpenAI o1, o1-mini, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice, along with o1 pro mode, an o1 version that uses more compute to provide better answers to the hardest problems. In the future, ChatGPT Pro will gain "more powerful, compute-intensive productivity features."

The OpenAI o1 pro mode takes significantly more compute power to solve complex problems, which is why OpenAI is charging such a high fee. OpenAI says that o1 thinks longer for the "most reliable responses," performing better on ML benchmarks across math, science, and coding.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Pro is aimed at researchers, engineers, and other individuals who use research-grade intelligence on a daily basis.

Literally just signed up with Anthropic. Good timing.
I guess OpenAI will have some $$ to help make it work, so that's promising for those putting out the big bucks. For me, it's absolutely absurd. But this might also give them zero incentive to do anything other than "scaling".......
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The general public is going to complain they'd rather have streaming video service, online storage, music subscriptions, OnStar, car washes, meal prep, and cash left over monthly.

This is going to be utilized by groups and organizations with a shared account or a single point of access who need bleeding-edge, top-notch data models for their business and rely on it daily.*

* Or that's all pie in the sky, and this is a gargantuan ripoff poised to flop hard. :p

I think it is this...

There was the exact same utopian hype for self-driving cars and VR/AR...and look how those 2 efforts turned out...we are stuck at a plateau on the innovations on those verticals...

We will hit the ceiling soon on AI too...AGI isn't happening anytime soon...

This is my fault. I've been using my $20 a month plan to use ChatGPT to be a nerdy friend who speaks to me in a wide range of comedy accents. I have noticed that my silly maths questions are taking more time to analyse (eg how many degrees of separation would there be if we all lived on the interior of a Dyson Sphere with the population density equivalent to Earth's - surprisingly, it's still only 9-10) So I'm sorry for burning up the planet with all that computing power for just $20 a month.
