OpenAI is developing a social network that's focused on ChatGPT's image generation features, reports The Verge. OpenAI is reportedly testing a prototype version of an image generator with a social feed, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been asking people for feedback on the project.

It's not clear if OpenAI will integrate its social network into ChatGPT or launch it as a standalone app, and there's also a chance that the app doesn't make it out of the prototyping phase.

Facebook parent company Meta is also planning for a social feed for its standalone AI assistant app, which would pit OpenAI's social AI app against Meta's social AI app. OpenAI would also need to compete with X (formerly Twitter), as X already integrates with the Grok chatbot. Grok's integration with X apparently has "made everyone jealous," especially the way that "people create viral tweets by getting it to say something stupid."

By developing a social network, OpenAI would have access to real-time data to further train its models. Meta and X both already have real-time social feeds to use for training purposes and for surfacing real-time information to answer queries.

I'm a professional designer, so obviously biased here. But man, AI is really killing art, just not in the way I originally thought it would. No, it's making it insufferable. Whereas I used to see these beautiful compositions developed by Midjourney and others - and was quite impressed. Now? Uhhgg, the proliferation of AI art that's plastered all over Facebook and other platforms has just cheapened it all sooooo much. It's like AI-generated art has already become a parody of itself. And now they're going to launch an entire platform based on it? My eyes are already bleeding....

i read somewhere (i forget where, might have had a beer or three), that all the AI image generation crap and all the stupid questions that are being fed into AI, is then training AI....
is it possible that these AI tools are going to get worse and just become memes of themselves?

everyone loves giving their data and their photos to these AI "tools"... don't we want AI to do things for us, like paying bills, and taxes, and washing, and cleaing the cat poop, but no, it's doing all the stuff we want to do...

"...One thing has become clear: this is the darkest, most terrible timeline."

Join openAi’s social network and generate images for OpenAI to use as training data.

Where’s the upside for users?

Presumably more free image generation a week or something. But count me out.
