One thing to add about Monterey, unfortunately Apple finally removed NVIDIA Kepler drivers. So, if you have a NVIDIA GPU and follow this guide, don't update to Monterey.

AFAIK, OCLP can patch the root volume and add the 11.0 Beta3 NVIDIA drivers back to Monterey, but this means that you won't have a vanilla install anymore.

Bad timing with the current insane GPU prices.

Interesting. Would MBP with Nvidia boot it using Iris Pro? I know on the MacBooks they go through a multiplexer and it is not so easy disabling it. BTW I am running Beta 5 on the MBP and NVIDIA still works.

Don't know for sure, but the Monterrey supported Mac mini 2014 have Iris Pro 5000 (1.4GHz) and 5100 (2.6/2.8GHz), so I think that you will probably be covered, at least driver wise, for anything starting with late-2013 MBPs, that have the Iris Pro 5200.

Hi guys,

Monterey is coming today and I was wondering what I need to do to install it. VMM should be on and also secureboodModel to "default". What does that mean? I use the latest package from martinLo and there it says "disabled". What should I change (if I have to change anything? Or do I only need to enable the VMM flag?

1. Change text "disabled" to "default"
2. Do the other changes outlined here #9,264 or better yet wait for Martin to fix his.

Since many here use their custom OC config (based on cdf guide), I made a tool to simplify the installation of kext on Monterey : https://github.com/jacklukem/BigSurmountsrw/releases/download/1.0/BigSurmountsrw2.app.zip

only requirement is to have "csrutil authenticated-root disabled" (and probably also SBM disabled) so advised to set csr-active-config as fwgAAA== , but after installed the kext you theoretically can enable sip again, the only issue is after this patching you can get only full OTA updates about 11 GB (not small OTA updates).

Here is a Nvidia Kepler package that I tested on RC2 and still works: Monterey NvidiaKepler

I add as also discussed often with khronokernel that VMM OTA updates should be fixed today by apple to deliver the full Monterey 12.0.1 version.

No Monterey yet, but Big Sur 11.6.1 (20G224) is available at Software Updates:

Is there any reason to believe that Catalina needs to be first updated to BS before attempting Monterey upgrade?

I might be mistaken, but, as far as Catalina updates go, the VMM flag must be set, but that is not desirable for either Big Sur or Monterey. That said, I don't think a full install of Monterey from Catalina, in most reasonable situations, should fail.

Just finished installing on a 5,1 with @h9826790's 0.7.4 package. It worked flawlessly. The OTA update showed up in Software Update. I hit "Upgrade Now" and just let it do it's thing. Thanks @cdf, @h9826790, and @Syncretic for all the work on this. The Mac Pro 5,1 lives another day!
Is Ethernet broken? I’ve heard mixed reviews that Ethernet is a tossup for some reason. What doesn’t work or is everything fully functional.

My cMP5,1 2010 just went from BS11.6.1 to Monterey 12.0.1 with the OTA update, using OCLP 0.7.3. No special things or settings, no unpleasant bending...
Same, have used the VMM-On config version of the OC Thread (0.7.3).. Works like a charm!

Not sure. I legitimately just used @h9826790's package almost completely unchanged. The only thing that I changed was the csr-active stuff but even that shouldn't matter.
I've just ran the installer on my MP6,1 which of course should work no dramas, now running it on the 6 core MP5,1.

It has just completed on the 6,1. I'm using 0.7.4 without changes for the 5,1 so let's see how it goes. Both my 5,1s are nearly identical except for the processor count and RAM. If it works on the 6 core machine, I'll run it on the dual 6 core.
