Hey, I recently started to use Mail and while setting some stuff up, I was in the all mail folder of Gmail and a spam email was currently selected as it was at the top of the list and while i was moving the cursor, i accidently hit the trackpad when the cursor was over the link, and the webpage then opened up which i closed. What is the maximum amount of harm that the spammer can do to me other than now start sending me more spam? Thanks.

Since you closed the website (and didn't follow any more links, or enter any information) virtually nothing. It's possible that you'll receive more spam because of it, but that would be the extent of the damage.
If it would make you feel better, you can delete any cookies the website might have left in Preferences > Security > "Show Cookies." ...Or you can choose to Reset Safari from the Safari menu.
