Since Apple is doing Metal for better performance, will this favour paid apps as (more likely to be supported/updated, and continue development), while free apps/developers who just do it for volunteer work, would more likely to vanish ?
I'm talking about any free apps today that used these API's, including Wine/Wineskin which all rely on the same code. The only exception would be CrossOver, also the same, is "paid" while all else more likely will switch to Vulkan in order to stay around..
However, getting this to interact with OpenGL API's would probably be harder, the fact paid software would, that gives higher/reliability these would work better than free ones ?
i.e more free apps would disappear which users OpenGL because they won't be able to afford development, but paid one will just because their being paid for.
Some of my Windows based gamed stopped working in High Sierra and the same with Mojave, with the fixes do not work of adding VRAM. And in some case wine-tricks even crashes.
Knowing that there is ore of a wide variation in what works and what doesn't, its therefore also more likely that any change to OS will always break them quicker as well.
For me, I see this as "the last/most compatible OS was Sierra" to run any of these projects..
Perhaps I'm wrong, it seemed everything worked no problem.... But now I ave a 2017 based Mac thing have got interesting trying to keep these alive..
The other thing, if OpenGL is getting depurated. why do she work, and some not ...?? I would have expected since most/if not all 3D bases games nowadays, even older ones: like Descent 3, which I never had problems even in Mojave, still work to this day... Yes, it's old, but surly it would have to use the same translation to OpenGL from DirectX.. to display on Mac.
In fact I always thought that's the only way any app that could display, even VWMare futon, would have to use translation to Open GL. so anything that relies on suchAP's would be effective when Apple eventually switches to Metal...
Is this correct?
