Opening a iMovie 06 project iovie 08 and audio issue

I able to load a iMovie 06 in i movie 08. cant figure it out. will it even allow me to. and all so when i thy to record with my iSight there is no audio with it just the picture. i no that it is not an iLife issue because when i try to record with photo booth it also does not have any sound to it. when i import from a camera there is no sound but when i watch the video that i recorded with the camera there is sound to it.

MBP 2.4GHz 2 gig
Mac OS 10.5.1
iLife is upto date
