Opening .dmg (this is easier than google!)

Hey all,

So last time I had a question I was amazed to the immediate response, so I come to you guys again, cause as I stated you are better than google.

I download the dar-wine emulator which is a .dmg file in hopes that I could install that so I could get some .exe files onto OS X. I have used WINE on Ubuntu and it worked like a charm.

The question I have is, how the heck do I open a .dmg file? I downloaded it to a flashdrive, mounted the flashdrive, I can see the .dmg file on there, but when I go to open it, there is an error stating that OS X doesnt know how to open it.

I tried applet launcher and that didnt work, so I come to the community.

If you double-click and it doesn't work, then it isn't a DMG.

There is nothing to "use".

It's a DiskImage (DMG), that can be opened by double clicking on it (the PPC file you mentioned).

If it can't be opened it sure is corrupted. Have you tried another download source? Is the downloaded file 23.8 MB in size?

Btw, you could state the nature of your problem more clearly in your thread title instead of using the Goooooogle comment.

PS: could you give us a screenshot of the error message?
(Cmd + Shift + 4 - you can drag around the area to grab it as a picture.png, which will be saved to the desktop)

Are you using Mac OS X when you try open it or Windows

Mount errror

hey sorry I had to leave,

problem is, the mac isnt online, im DLing the file onto a jumo drive. So when I try to open the file from the jumpdrive it gives me an error that the file cant be mounted.....when I try to open it it opens it with the "disk mount" utility. Im so friggin confused!

Have you tried moving the DMG to your internal hard drive first?

yes i did and its still giving me the same error, it says : cannot mount image
(then the file name)

i dont understand how someone else was able to DL the link that I posted, but i cannot.

Yours is corrupted. Download it again.
DMG is a universal filetype for OS X. It doesn't require anything to "open" it. It simply mounts, and you get what you need out of it, and unmount it.
