Opening files on a HD, wirelessly

So, easy question, hopefully easy answer...

How can i select and open files (say a movie) on a external HD connected to my mac (desktop) from my MBP (laptop)?

I had a look through the settings for "sharing" but i couldnt find anything. How do i do this?

System Preferences>Sharing>File Sharing

Enable it and add the Hard Drive to this list:

Try creating an alias to the external hard drive and putting it in your Public folder.

Are you able to access your public folder from your MacBook Pro?
