Opening lost pictures already in iPhoto library

I have edited pictures in Adobe Photoshop Elements that were saved to the iPhoto library, in the originals folder. I can find them in finder, but how can I open them again in iPhoto? When looking in the events section, the photos aren't visible. Yet if I save the photos to the desktop, then try to import them, iPhoto says they're already in the library. I want to put the photos into an album in iPhoto, or make a book with them.
