I have been working all night on some word document and excel document on my mac, and I'm at work now but the files wont open, I have Mac office 2007 at home and office 2003 on this XP machine

Are the documents .docx and .xlsx?

Do you have the compatibility module installed for Office 2003 for Office 2007/2008 file formats?

You're probably talking about Mac Office 2008 ;)

yes it is mac office 2008, sorry little hectic at work.

they are .doc, and .xls

it does mention converter, but work has restricted downloads

am i screwed?

Did you create the files in Mac Office 2008 and save them as the plain, 97/2003 compatible .doc and .xls formats?

They should work just fine in Office 2003.

that might be it, i just assumed that word documents would read across the board on both platforms.

I'll have to open them up tonight and re save them.

Office 2007 for Windows and 2008 for Mac at completely compatible when using the new 'x' formats of Office documents. (e.g. .docx, .pptx, .xlsx)

When using older versions of Office you need to make sure you save them in the compatible Office 97/2003 formats that don't have a 'x' suffix. (e.g. .doc, .ppt, .xls)

Microsoft offers a compatibility pack for Office 2003 for Windows and is in progress for the Office 2004 for Mac one.

IM me if you need faster answers. ;)

It's not a problem at all.
In fact, go into word preferences and set the save default to the earlier version and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
