Hey everyone,

I'm opening a new music school within the year. I'll have to buy about 15-20 Apple computers for students to learn on. I'm wondering if Apple offers any types of discounts on computers for educational purposes or for featuring their computers in a environment such as this. I know it's not many computers and make very little difference to their bottom line, but if anyone has any suggestions about who I should contact I'd be thrilled to know.

Thanks!

I have to say I'm surprised with the positive remarks so far, lol.

If anyone has had any experience with this I'd like to know. Or perhaps a particular email address.

Thanks again!

I just opened a business account with them. They said once I buy 3 machines (including the one I bought at the time) I get business discount, so that means you would defiantly qualify.

what sort of discount are we talking about?

what's so hard to give a number if someone has already phoned? it's a standard discount, i called. 5% for purchases over 5000$.

Maybe it qualifies as "Homeschool"?

Apple Online Store for Homeschoolers
Apple understands the benefits of homeschooling and knows which products are the most relevant. Education discounts are available to homeschool teachers.

They don't specify what qualifies as a "homeschool". Do you have to really be at home or is it for any education institution that isn't listed in their education store? I doubt they really care, they just want to sell you Macs and probably do no verification at all, just like for any edu discount they give.

hmmmm....possibly, not a bad idea.

they did say specifically say i wouldn't qualify as an educational institute, they say it's more something like a college, university, high school, etc.

My school bought 28 new iMac's to upgrade them from the previous generation and apparently they got quite a hefty discount.

what sort of school is it?

----------

It depends on volume.. It goes up to 14%...

i think it also depends on the size of the company. he mentioned something about bigger company with a certain amount of employees getting bigger discounts.

A well-known private school (Secondary school, I don't know what that is in US terms, though)

educational discount is pretty decent. It brings the $2999 rMBP down to $2779 it also discounts apple care. And you get a free $100 iTunes card with each purchase.

looks like that's about an 8% discount, so not a huge difference.

that would make sense then.

Not huge but multiply that by 15 and you basically get one free. And that's only new equipment...go refurb and you will save even more.

add in the iTunes cards and your saving $4800

the refurd... that's a great idea! i like that idea.

the itunes gift card is of no use to me for the school. sure it would be good to have, but not essential.

yup, called again and basically there's nothing i can do about being considered an educational institute. i'll simply get the business discount. by the way, the discount does not apply to refurbs.
