I'm new to mac and I noticed on my MBP, when you open any song (from my flash drive) in iTunes that it automatically saves the song to the MBP hard drive. Is there anyway I can change this option? Like change the settings so that I can save it to an external hard drive instead? Or even just change the settings so that it doesn't save the song played onto the hard drive? Thanks, in advance.

There's an option in iTunes's preferences, in the Advanced section, called "Copy files to iTunes Library". It's probably checked, so uncheck it.

thanks guys I was looking at the wrong place I kept pressing the advanced tab at the top instead of the iTunes tab > preferences
