Obviously you're not a golfer.
yeah this is pointless, but what the hell.

so, who has the honors? are you going the let the sales rep open the box and pull out your phone? or are you going to ask them to give you the box to do it yourself?

Just close your eyes or ask him to set it all up behind the counter and put it back in the box like it was. Then take it home and open it again.

This was what my brother and I were talking about! Show me what you need to on a demo, but don't let me see mine until I can unbox it myself. It makes it like a present!

On the other hand, is this REALLY a big deal to people? It's not like someday it's going to be asked to choose it's owner and go to the person who touched it first.

The problem with that "just put it back how it was so I can open it at home" is the inherent fact that they would have removed the outer plastic beforehand...and I doubt they have a shrink-wrapping machine there to make it just as if it hadn't been opened.

Nothings more fun than ripping open the wrapper of a new device and opening it completely. Though simply having what appears to be an untouched iPhone is good enough for me...no fingerprints but my own.

They have to hook it up to whatever PC or Mac they have setup special...which I'm sure will just be a cable hookup. Perhaps they'll let us take out our own phone, plug it in ourselves, and let them go through the unbricking process without them handling it at all. That's how I hope it will go.

My God.

Most of you seem to be buying the iPhone for the box, not the phone.

Not at all. I think the feelings of everyone here can be summed up by this one picture that we all want to see for ourselves:

unblemmished...completely new iPhone 3G.

oh...just found this while searching for that picture:

Here's hoping the process is the same at AT&T stores.

If they scratch it or anything I'm demanding a new one. I don't want them to take the film stuff of the screen either because I don't want to take it off until I'm at home and putting a screen protector on it.

if they open it and let me handle it 1st im gunna pull a gizmodo and see if it fits down my pants. then ill hand it back.

this is only if i were to go to an att store though.
