I have recently installed OpenOffice.org v3, and apart from an issue I'm having with bullet points, it seems to be a pretty good program. However, just out of interest, I decided to check out NeoOffice, as it's supposed to be more integrated in to Mac OS X. Visually, NeoOffice seemed to me to be a little better than OpenOffice.org - not miles ahead, just a little more polished. Plus it didn't have my bullet points issue ;). I was also impressed with NeoOffice's seed - I'd been under the impression that because it is Java based that it was quite slow, but it seems to perform pretty well.

So, for those that have used both, which did you prefer, if any? Was one better to use than the other?

Thanks,

Dave.

Oo_O calc won't accept a space/tab delimited text file that's been copied and pasted from textwrangler. Instead of opening a dialogue, it insists on putting each row into one cell. NeoOffice behaves impeccably.

NeoOffice, on the other hand, has incredibly clunky graphing and regression tools, while Oo_O 3's are really rather good.

I just keep both and use whichever suits my current task, although NeoOffice is set as the default.

Keep in mind that NeoOffice is still based on OpenOffice 2.4.

I also use both, and find that NeoOffice is a little better in some areas, but I like OpenOffice.

I like the new OO 3.0 for mac. I did not really hate the version that used X11 but i did not want to deal with X11 on a regular basis, so i avoided OO. Now that X11 is not required i have started using OO more.

The layout and placment of things is a little different from what i am use to but all in all i think i can get use to it. Especially, since MS 08 seems to suck so much and be so ungodly slow (but getting better).

OpenOffice

NeoOffice uses some Java to get things looking Mac-like. Besides, NeoOffice IMO is now entirely redundent!

I just test-drove OOo 3 and its pretty much a win coated win with a win center.
In other words, its awesome. It makes iWork look like garbage.

What can I say? My system crashed (kernel panic) when I tried to run it for the first time this morning -- right at the end of the registration process.

I'll give it another go now and see what happens. No panic so far.

My install froze at the same spot, although my computer didn't crash. Haven't had a problem since then, though.
