I have 500gb late 2011 MBP.

I have decided to swap my original HD for either
a OCZ Vertex 4 SSD (256GB)
or
Crucial 256GB m4 SATA 6Gb/s 2.5" Solid State Drive

(any preference on which of those?)

How can I be sure this will fit in nicely to my MBP?

Also I plan on using the original drive in an external case.

My plan is to then format the SSD to mac format, purchase Mountain Lion, burn it to disc and install it to the new SSD.

Is it as simple as that, or is there any advice or tips as I have never done this with a Mac before.

I would consider the Samsung 830 over the Crucial because of the read/write speed.
The Crucial is also a good choice but is slower. It depends on how big your wallet is.

It will fit because both are 2,5" and perfectly fine for the original HD placing or an optical bay.

ML will come with a recovery function just like Lion. You can easly make an recovery USB with the provided tool.

Its as simpel as ABC and the replacing will cost you 10 minutes or less.

Be sure to have an torx6, Philips #00 and some patience.
