I am trying to choose a monitor to pair with my upcoming Mac mini M4 Pro.
The main use will be photo editing and sometimes some video editing.
Important premise : I am not a professional. The photos will mainly be displayed on electronic devices, although I would like to start printing the most beautiful ones.

On one side there is the BenQ 4K 32" which gives me the feeling of a better quality panel, with software modeled for pairing with Macs. The only "problem" is the 4K.
[97% P3, 99% sRGB]
600 nits (peak)
Contrast 1300:1
€600

On the other side there is the Asus 5K 27", which is more expensive, spartan and perhaps with quite visible Backlight Bleeding, but no scaling issues given the 5K.
[99% P3, 100% sRGB, 95% RGB]
500 nits
Contrast 3000:1
€800

Which would you choose?

If I was going to buy a display mainly for photo and video editing, I think I'd "limit myself" to OLED displays (of which there aren't too many of, not yet). No backlight bleed at all on these, I believe (could be wrong about that).

There are next-to-no 27" 4k OLED displays on the market, for some reason. This might be due to technical design limitations, so far. Those that I've seen are now discontinued or very expensive.

There ARE 32" 4k OLED displays.
I'd normally set this at "looks like 1440p" (scaled). 32" @ "looks like 1080p" would be "too large" for my tastes.

Using something like "BetterDisplay" or "SwitchRes" would probably yield the best image.

I am not sure I understand your answer.
I ask for an opinion between two specific monitors, A or B, and you answered maybe a “C” 😅
If you have in mind any specific oled models in the price range of the other two and with similar colour coverage values, happy to evaluate them ;)

If you can live with fractional scaling (which you've said yourself it might be a problem for you with 4K resolution on 32" or if you don't mind big UI with "looks like 1920x1080" and no fractional scaling) then BenQ, otherwise ASUS 5K seems to be better choice for you.

I need sharp fonts and reasonable screen estate so I'm rocking ASD, but ASUS is nice and costs approx. 50% less than ASD.

About the non-retina resolution, check this : Benq at minute 24:12.
It’s in Italian, but you can activate subs in English

Yeah, watched that, thanks. 140ppi vs 218ppi and fractional vs non-fractional scaling. I know I myself do not like fractional scaling, had tried several HiDPI monitors including LG 34WK95U and Corsair 4K 32" (and regular UWs, like 49" 5120x1440 and Dell 38" 3860x1600) - no, can't do 😅

The real question is the one only YOU can answer: will you be OK with fractional scaling?

Right now, I have no idea. I should try
