macrumors newbie
I will start by saying I currently have a 2009 13 inch macbook pro. 2.26 core2duo w/ 4 gb of ram.
I am looking to get into music production and will be running digital performer 7 (maybe 8 when it comes out). I will mainly be using hardware synths, but will rely on the macbook for sequencing, audio, and effects. Anyway, even though I think my current macbook will probably run dp7 respectably, I think I am going to upgrade b/c I REALLY want a ssd.
Looking at the options, even though I can afford a 15 inch retina, I just don't think I will need that much power, at least not in the next year or so. Sure I could future proof, but in two years the retina macbook pro will smoke the current one. As far as the 13 inch options, the air looks pretty awesome for $1200, but I would get the external usb drive, bringing the price to $1280. The macbook pro would be $1400 for a 128gb ssd, but would include the cd drive and has a faster cpu ( maybe even significantly faster?).
Anyway, just wondering what you guys would recommend. 1.8 i5 air for $1280 or 2.5 i5 mbp for $1400.
