I’ve always had the space gray aluminum apple watches (42/44). Recently, I got a crack in the screen, and I’ve been thinking about buying a new watch. Is it worth upgrading to the graphite stainless steel? I know that the glass is stronger, but I’m concerned that the watch itself scratches easier. My aluminum watches usually look like new - even after a year (except from maybe a hairline scratch or two on the screen). How does the stainless steel versions hold up?
I know there have been some cases of the watch getting scratched when using the Milanese loop band, but how about daily usage with regular sport bands and sport loops?
And to those who own the graphite version, are you pleased with the color? I assume it would pair nicely with the graphite iPhone? Any opinions?

I am the same boat, I have aluminum and I am thinking of going the SS way. From what I have read it's DLC coated so it's body is very resilient to scratches and bumps, the glass is way stronger compared to what aluminum has but it's not an actual piece of sapphire... more like sapphire coated. It can be scratched, I've seen comparative scratch tests and although it holds up fine, it's still not as durable as a Tissot with Sapphire glass for instance. Some say that the scratches are on the sapphire oleophobic coating... well... in the end, does not matter?... a scratch is a scratch and it will stay there forever.

From the sounds of it (you being nice to Apple Watches in general), an SS watch on your wrist will always look like new....

Be aware that the battery will not last forever so at the best you will probably get 3 years out of it.

I also take good care of my watched and since I wear shirt and tie every day I rarely bump my watch because it's always protected... still... I manage to bump at one point my AW5 aluminum and it got a very tiny mark, a tiny white line on a black watch, near the display... so... sh*t happens.

Later edit :
I also read here that : https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/beware-the-graphite-milanese-loop.2266137/
So the body does scratch....

I currently have a Space Black SS S5. Previously I have owned a Space Grey aluminum S3. The SS is much more resistant to scratches and abrasions than the aluminum. It’s a significant premium in $ as well, but it comes with LTE standard so that may or may not be of value to you. My advice is buy the best one you can afford. Some will scoff at the premium SS entails but you’ll wear it everyday(?) and appreciate the beauty of it.

I upgraded from a Space Grey aluminum S5 to a Graphite SS S6 due to how scratched up the S5 got on the screen (the body is flawless). I've only had the SS for a little over a month, but so far so good. I'm still in the honeymoon phase where I'm very aware of it and extra careful, so time will tell.
