I have a 240GB Vertex 3 Max IOPS ssd in my hd bay now but I want to install some programs that have a large footprint (CS5, LogicPro). I want to put a big HD in my optical bay and I had a couple of questions.
First, I am thinking about going with the OWC data doubler kit because of the price. I am trying to decide between the 750GB Hitachi Travelstar or the 750GB Momentus XT. My first question is, is the xt worth the extra price? Would I benefit from the flash cache it has for partitioning files?
Second, does anyone have a reliable guide to setting up the HD once it is installed in my optibay on the OS and software side? What system settings do I need to change and what should i do to get my system ready for the install? (i've heard that osx disables dvd playback from external superdrive if removed).
Third, Should i add it as a separate partition or a continuous volume?
Last, what kind of files should I store on the new hard drive? Obviously, i will be putting my music and video downloads there. But are there certain system files that i should move over there?
