So I just got my brand new MBP and I swapped the optidrive with my optibay + ssd drive. It boots, it reads the new drive, but I'm trying to do a clean install by holding down the Option key when I restart my machine and selecting the USB drive, but it just hangs. Hmmm.... is cloning the only option? I'll try to install it through Snow Leopard, but this might become an issue if something messes up in the future seeing as I can't access Snow Leopard through a bootable device.

Seems this is my issue => http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11618432

Attempting to boot off the original CD instead of my original Snow Leopard CD. Perhaps this will solve the issue of my gray screen.

Yep, seems to work now. Closing thread, but solution was to make sure you use a CD that is the same version or newer than what is installed on your preconfigured mac, otherwise it won't work.

Seems I'm not allowed to close my own threads, can a mod close this.
