I am deployed and have ney very slow internet so I am sorry for not doing more searching. I am about to buy a SSD for my 2011 17" MBP and want to put the old HDD in the optibay. Other than the SSD, what else do I need to buy? I know I need to buy some sort of caddy for the HDD...can someone direct me to where I buy one of these cheap. Thanks!

The best place to get what you are looking for is

www.macsales.com

They will have a complete kit that will give you directions and all the parts to do the upgrade :D

Cheap is not always the best way to go in my opinion. I agree with the previous poster as far as the Data Doubler for the optibay. However, I suggest you also look at Newegg, Amazon, B&H, Crucial, and BuyDig before pulling the trigger. Competition is stiff right now on SSD's and RAM. You may find a better deal on these items.

can someone direct me to a link for what I need for a 2011 17" MBP? the internet is so bad here that the page barley loads (deployed).

Data Doubler - http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDAMBS0GB/

8gb RAM - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ps&field-keywords=8+gb+ddr3+1333+mhz+204+pin/

SSD - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=ssd/

I know you only inquired about the optibay caddy but thought you might be interested in more info on SSD's and RAM. The additional links provide info on various makes, models, and prices. Since you're going to open up your MBP now would be a good time to add RAM.

Thank you for your service to our country.

I just installed this optibay (hdd caddy for optical bay) in my 2011 MBP: http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Unibody...H2US/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336493489&sr=8-1

Fit perfectly, Mac sees the correct 3Gbps link, too. No complaints here, and only $15.

Hi, I was just wondering, will this fit into my MD313LL model (late 2011)? I've been looking for one that would fit into my MD313LL and so far haven't found the right one.
Perhaps, any recommendation will be very much appreciated.

thanks alot.

Hello,

Will the problem explained in above posts also apply to 13" MBP Late 2011?

Meaning that if I am actually own MBP 13" Late 2011, I would 100% for sure will not be able to put Samsung 830 with caddy into the optibay? As it will definitely just won't work?

So the only option if I still want to swap my optibay with ssd + caddy is by choosing a sata II ssd?

Please correct me if my understanding are wrong. Thanks a lot guys.
