So I've just installed one of these: http://www.thebookyard.com/product.php?cPath=39_64_131&products_id=7092 to replace my Superdrive.

I have also installed an SSD as my main system drive.

The SSD has been running for a few weeks now and has been fine.

The drive (which was my original Hitachi drive) in the Superdrive bay doesn't seem to show up all the time. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I can't seem to work out a pattern to it's shyness either.

My MacBook Pro is the A1226

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I could look at to resolve this?

You probably already did this but have you checked that it's pushed in all the way in the connector? It could be as simple at that. Maybe it moves around in the optibay and disconnects/connects.

It's probably something a lot more complicated but it's worth a try I guess.
