Hi!

My Project for the next weekend is to replace my current SDD+HDD (HDD in Optibay) in my MBP with a new and larger HDD. I want to take this opportunity and setup a Fusion Drive.

May I put the SDD-Drive into the Optibay and the new HDD in the original HD-Tray? There are two reasons why I wanna do this in this directon.

1. I'll be able to use a larger HDD-Drive with 12.5mm height and 1.5 TB storage.
2. The SATA-HDD will be more silent on this position instead of the current Optiybay.

Makes it any difference in which order I create my Fusion drive?

Cheers
Flo

it depends if your optibay has 6GBit or 3GBit connection. the "bullet proof" and safe way would be putting the faster SSD drive into the regular drive bay, and the old HDD into the optibay.

you can also check in the "about this mac" screen, details, and view the SATA controller's connection speed to find out, if your optibay supports 6GBit or 3.
