Regarding the OptiBay swap with an optical drive - I have an early 2011 17" MBP and was looking into swapping out the optical drive. However, I don't want to use a SSD, but another HD.

Would using 2 7200rpm (or 1 5400 and 1 7200) be too much heat inside the MBP? If so, I'll wait and go the SSD route later on.

Thanks.

It will work fine. Drives are not the primary source of heat in notebooks, anyway. The CPU and GPU are the two primary furnaces. iStat Pro will give you accurate readings of your temps, among other things.
