Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and just have one quick problem. I just got a Macbook 4,1 second hard to upgrade and use for live performance. I want to remove the optical drive and replace it with the stock HDD and an SSD in the hard drive slot. Yesterday I did the swap and everything seemed to be going okay. But then on installing OSX to the SSD, I noticed that the HDD (in the Optical Bay), was not being recognized.
So today I took the machine apart again and reinstalled the optical drive. The drive does not seem to be recognized (it shows "This computer doesn't contain any ATA devices etc" in System Profiler), however it is being powered as I could hear it move. I inserted a CD but nothing happened. I never really tested the Optical Drive before the upgrade as I had no use for it so perhaps it was dodgey to begin with. (Note it did show in System Profiler).
This is the SATA/ATA caddy I used
http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220773552511&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:IE:1123
So my question is, do you think that perhaps the ATA cable needs replacement? Such as

or even worse that the connection in the motherboard is on the brink? I assume the caddy works but I have no way of testing. Clearly I don't have Apple Care etc. as I bought this second hand and am doing everything myself. I was very careful in the disassemble so I do not think I did any damage (to the board/cable).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
