A friend of mine recently purchased a new optical drive for his 2011 Macbook Pro. However he accidentally bought the wrong drive (designed for 2008 models) and the connector is different. I don't have physical access to the machine but I am giving him advice. According to GSX, the connector on the drive is removable for both. Is it possible to switch the connectors and use the older drive?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the "Early 2008" MBPs used a completely different interface; swapping the connector (if it's even possible) won't help.
