Hey, I just got the 27" Imac and had a query before buying a particular set of speakers. I want to buy the Edifier s330d 2.1 speakers. One of the S330D's features is that they have can use S/PDIF signals from either coaxial or optical TOSLINK cables. So does the imac support the optical out directly from the port for headphones or is there any adapter/cables to be used. Any info. on this is appreciated. Thanks.

The "tech specs" page for the iMac says it supports optical out. I know I have used this on my Mac Book Pro, but I have never tried it on my iMac.

The "AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit with Monster Cables" is one way to get the cable. I don't know if there's another way to get the appropriate cable. It's the "mini-to-optical digital Toslink audio cable" that's the one you're looking for.
