Hi,

still waiting on my 27" iMac, but was looking to purchase a 7.1 sound headset for my ps3/xbox that also would work with my Mac, and it does, via TOSLINK, but just wondering if there is an output on the new macs or an adapter available that can output it?

thanks in advance.

How hard can it be...

from apple.com go to see imac tech spect. In audio it says:

* Stereo speakers
* Dual microphones
*Headphone port
-Headphone/optical digital audio output (minijack)
-Support for Apple iPhone headset with microphone

Damn, that's a whole lot of speakers around your head. I never knew these existed. Are they a good sound experience?

lol :)

& thanks for the post, I did look there , however from the image from the back of the mac

there did not appear to be a corresponding output,
(i missed the text a few paragraphs above it that you posted)
I'm presuming then that the audio jack can output optical too?.....and if so does that mean an adapter is needeed.....

wish it were that simple...maybe it is....

But can you answer if the Mini-jack will work with standard TOSLInk cables and devices? or some kind of adapter is needed, there are non on the apple store that I can see.
