As a service for those few users (pro's/prosumer) who might be interested, I just emailed Corning about their long Optical Thunderbolt cables, regarding Tbolt 3.

I currently have their 10m/33ft cables (usable on Tbolt 1 & 2, with the older MiniDP-style connector) and wanted to know:
A: Can they be used with the new Tbolt 3 standard, using adaptors?
B: Whether new optical Tbolt 3 cables were coming?

Here's their response (31 Oct 2016):

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Corning about our Active Optical Cables.

We really appreciate your recommendation to update the FAQ section of our website, our technical team is working on new information regarding TB3 compatibility and it will be online as soon as possible.

We have not tested the TB3 to TB2 adapters but they should work fine with our cables. Please refer to the adapter specification for compatibility with non-BUS powered cables.

Regarding a new Thunderbolt 3 product launch it’s in fact in our roadmap but not happening sooner than late 2017.

Hope I could be of any help.

Let me know of any further questions.

All the best.

So as of today (31 Oct 2016)...
A: SHOULD WORK, NEEDS CONFIRMING.
B: LATE 2017, AT THE EARLIEST. (bummer, another whole year for a new USB-C shape connector!)

Looks like we're in luck with adaptors, so can go ahead and order the (£4049!) maxed out 15" model, lol!

So now you know, people. ;)
