Hi

Is there a recommended way to charge Macbooks? I use mine for work so it's on from early morning all day and sometimes well into the evening... therefore the cycle count racks up fairly quickly.

If the battery is at 100% is it better to leave the charger connected to keep the battery at 100% or should I be letting the battery drain and then re-charging again when it's low?

It may not matter but was just curious as I've just picked up a new Macbook and want to help the battery last as long possible.

It depends, as long as laptop is not running extremely hot while charging, it wont degrade the battery.
i have been using MacBook pro 2015 for past 4 years, battery cycles 450, battery health 86%, still getting solid 8 hours on wifi and youtube streaming. I always discharge battery after every 3rd day, and used laptop plugged in for around 4-5 hours daily.

I've been thinking about this more and more during this Work-From-Home time, as I now have my 13" 2016 MBP (4TB) plugged in and working closed-clamshell mode into external monitor/kb/trackpad for about 10hrs M-F.

I'll let more experienced people chime in, but for me, I've heard it's no issue to keep plugged in 24/7. It's supposed to be able to do that. That being said, with the reports of potential swollen battery, I try to unplug it every few days overnight, and also use it as a "normal laptop" (eg. not closed clamshell) using battery once a week or so.

I probably don't have to, but given minimal effort on my part, doing it "just in case"...
