Hi all

After used MacBook Air M4 over two months it finally learned to stop charging at 80% during plugin but I don't like how it worked.

At 100% battery plugin the megasafe cable light has changed from green to orange color. Although it still plugin but it using the the battery powered. Battery would drop from 100% to 80%. At 80% it start to powered by adapter and stayed there.

I have unplugin at 80% battery. When I plugin, it start charging from 80% to 100% again. After reached 100%, battery would drop again till 80%.

Is it how the optimized battery charging worked ? or because it used 35W charger ?

Thank

I use a regular USB-C cable and my M4 MBA only charges to 80%. Does not go over 80%. Are you sure you have the setting to optimized to 80%?

Apple needs to bring the charging control that started with the iPhone 15 series onwards to the Mac. It is needed on the one device with battery that can spend the most time plugged in. As someone with a crazy and irregular work schedule, the native optimized charging never works correctly for more than a few days at a time in a given month. They preach consistency across their devices, but they never actually fully practice it. I know there is Al Dente, but this is a no brainer for a native feature. 🙄 Unless you sleep and wake up at the same time every day, or keep a Mac plugged in for most of its life, I personally have not seen the algorithm they use do anything consistently smart enough, to warrant any benefit to overall battery health long term. Personally, I don’t sweat about battery health and just use my MacBook as I see fit, knowing that the battery is replaceable should I ever need to. Apple software quality and consistency is going to suck for as long as the leadership in the respective areas that delver it remains the same.
