Since picking up my 14 Pro on launch day about half a year ago now, I've been conscious of trying to be consistent with when I charge it. I'm not trying to nurse the battery but I want to be consistent with charging so that Optimized Charging (OC) can do its thing with minimal effort from me.

I have found OC to be.... not optimized. I always charge overnight and plug in my phone (20W wired) after 11:00 PM. That typically means within the hour but sometimes I'm out late (pretty rare). When I plug it in, it can be at 60% on low usage days but it tends to be around 30-40%. I always unplug the phone in the morning between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Sometimes OC just doesn't want to kick in and the phone charges to 100% by shortly after midnight. Maybe the battery is too high? Or too low? Also, from my observation OC tends to not work for a week or two after updating the OS but that could just be coincidence. Every time OC does kick in and stay on for a few weeks, it seems the top-up time is getting earlier and earlier. It was at 7:00 AM before, then 6:30, and I think it's at 5:30 now. How is this possible when I've unplugged the phone from charging after 8:00 AM 100% of the time? I understand the phone anticipating this behaviour by setting 7:00 AM as the top up time, but 5:30 just seems too early and doesn't seem optimized.

Is it because I might wake up in the middle of the night and go on my phone for a few minutes in my half-awake state? The phone is anticipating some activity even though it's still plugged in? Take a look at this screenshot. Phone is plugged in at 50% at 11:00 or shortly after, OC kicks in but then the top up is so early at 3:30, 4 (even though it says 5:30....) that it's sitting at 100% for so long still. Yeah, I'll wake up and go on the phone for a bit but that can't be the reason OC is topping up earlier and earlier.
