Optimizing Broadband Opimizer?

I'm running OS X and I just installed broadband optimizer. It really helps out my connection speed. Now I'm looking to optimize it. I know that I need to change the packet size to do this. But, I was wondering how do I check if it's any faster? Should I ping a certain IP? Any help would be appreciated.
