Optimizing disk

I was doing some harddrive maintenance the other day and was thinking. I own a 933Mghz G4 running OS 10.1.5 and I use Norton Utilities 7.0 to optimize my disk. They way it does that is that I have to boot from my CD-ROM as you all well know. For reasons still not clear to me, Norton boots OS 9 for this purpose. Now, Apple is saying that new machines will not boot OS 9. Where the hell does that leave me??? Upgrade with Norton's again or get something else? Damn.
