Do you think if enough people put in feedback that double tapping the side button on the Apple Watch would bring up Passbook instead of only the card you have assigned to Apple Pay then Apple would add this as an option? (BTW - I already did.)
Surprised that Apple did not think to make this an option. Otherwise you have to go first to the home screen, then find the little Passbook icon, tap on it and then first select the card (either Apple Pay CC or your other cards like Starbucks, etc.) you want to use. Would think that this option would be rather easy to implement.

I totally agree and support this idea. I can't use ApplePay despite being in the US (both bank nor credit card support it yet) but I do however use Passbook for my gift cards and reward cards. A simple option somewhere in Settings would be welcomed, or better yet, why not just have the double-press bring you to Passbook if ApplePay isn't set up?

Right now when I use it, I'm just told that ApplePay isn't yet set up, and that's it. I can't even swipe to view my Passbook cards.

You can swipe left on the cards to reveal your other cards.

Not if you used the double tap of the side button to open up Apple Pay. All I get is the Chase Visa that is the credit card set up for Apple Pay. But I can't get to my other Passbook cards (Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts).

Oh I see what you are saying, I guess I have multiple apple pay cards so I can swipe through those. But you are trying to use loyalty type cards that are also in passbook right?

I have mine set up so that they automatically appear when I am at the location. In passbook on your phone you can tap the "i" in the bottom right corner of the card and set up the location. For example whenever I get near my Walgreens, my loyalty card comes up on my lock screen and my apple watch.

I know that isn't exactly what you were asking for, but maybe you could use it as a workaround for now.

It would be a nice option to choose straight to Apple Pay or Passbook.
The Starbucks stuff is in Passbook, so there are times I wish I didn't have to go to the Starbucks app to use it. Going straight to passbook would be great.

You don't have to go to the Starbucks app - you can open passbook from your home screen.

I *do* think they need to find a way to make that process shorter. The "pass on lockscreen" works for me about 50% on my phone but has only worked once on the watch. So then I have to go to my watch home screen, open passbook, scroll to get to the Starbucks pass (since the Apple Pay cards take up most of the tiny screen), then tap that twice (once to get the pass and once to get just the barcode).

I'm not in favor of replacing the double press for Apple Pay as I use that, but they could integrate the passes with Apple Pay (i.e. scroll past your primary card to get the passes) or use the single press for passbook (and only passbook, don't show the apple pay cards) rather than friends. Heck, they could even add passbook as a glance and it'd be easier.

Why not a Passbook Glance? Seems like a logical place to put it

Right now scrolling left or right from the watch face does nothing. They could add a glance there for passbook that would be really convenient.

While this is a good idea in theory, I have found that Glances are not an optimal place to get quick information. You have to potentially swipe through many Glances depending on what you were last looking at. Could be faster to just launch the Passbook app from the home screen.

I have two credit cards authorized for Apple Pay and they show up just fine in the Passbook App on my iPhone. When I double click the button on the AW it goes to Contacts twice instead of Apple Pay. The setting in the AW App on the phone is set to Mirror my iPhone. It doesn't list the cards that are currently registered in Passbook and when I go to "Add a Card,", it goes to the camera to add a new card. I don't see any place to sync the phone and watch so it shows the cards I have already registered.

What am I doing wrong?

Not all apps allow you to set location when tapping in the "i" in the corner. I have several that don't. The only one I do that does is the Starbucks card.

I don't know about the US but here in the UK the bar code in my Starbucks card appears automatically on my iPhone home screen and on my :apple:Watch display. Granted it may only be the favourite stores I have set in the app as the only one I have been to since I got my watch is one of them although it may well work when you're in the immediate vicinity of any Starbucks store.

Yep, that's how it's supposed to work here in the US too. Mine works about half the time on my phone, and has only worked once on my watch. I know I have things set up right (at least on my phone), because of the times it works, so I'm not really sure what the deal is, but having it easy-access for those times when it doesn't work would sure be nice.

You have to set up the cards again for the Watch. The iPhone won't mirror the information for your cards. You're not doing anything wrong, and it seems like something you shouldn't have to do, but it's they way they set it up.

Thanks. I finally figured this out. I guess they decided to make everyone repeat the registration of CC for security reasons. Not a big deal.

I'm failing to see how having your starbucks or grocery membership card show up on the watch is useful, but maybe someone can clarify its use-case. You double-press the side button, a digital icon of your card shows up and then...? You couldn't use it on an NFC terminal since Apple only supports cards issued by financial institutions, and only ones they've specifically integrated with. Maybe the membership # or gift card ID is printed out in tiny letters/numbers that you peck in manually to the terminal instead of swiping your card? I could see something like QR boarding passes showing up on there being useful, although it didn't work very well via the Fandango app when I tried it.

When I walk into one of my "favorite" Starbucks, it shows on my iPhone lock screen - a notification that I have to slide to get to the Passbook Starbucks screen). For other non-favorite, you see the little Starbucks logo on the bottom right corner (which I guess is GPS generated because it works for Dunkin Donuts also).
On my Watch, I will get a notification which opens to Passbook when I guess the GPS on the Phone senses I am near a favorite Starbucks. (Not near any other Starbucks - at least not that I have seen yet.) But it also flashes when I am quite a distance from the actual store.
But since Dunkin Donuts does not (1) all selection of more than one favorite and (2) does not have a Watch version yet, the only way to pay is to go to Passbook on the home screen. That is why the suggestion of double tapping the side button.

When you open Passbook (not directly to Apple Pay on the Watch) it shows your Apple Pay credit cards and other assorted cards (like Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc.) Those other cards don't use the NFC, they have a bar code that shows on the card in Passbook and the person at the register has to use a scanner to make the purchase. That is why I would like easier access on the Watch to Passbook.

Ok, that makes more sense. The issue I've had with QR codes on the watch is that when my hand moves and changes angles to scan, the screen turns off. I *think* the apple pay screen stays on though so that might now be an issue.

Yep - had that at Starbucks because the scanner was down low and the barrister did not seem inclined to lift it up even though she kept seeing the Watch go dark.
Also, some of the scanners they use at Dunkin Donuts seem to care what direct their bar code (actually one of those square box things) is being held. Seems to work better if the watch is held upright.

100% agree with the point you make. I keep double-tapping the side button expecting it to pull up my entire wallet, but instead it just keeps showing me my Walgreens card which is funny since I'm nowhere near a Walgreens.

The behavior I expect when I double-tap the side button is that it should bring up my entire wallet and default (if possible) to the card that makes sense for the geographic location I'm at. For example, if I'm at a Starbucks then double-tapping the side button should bring up my Starbucks card. When I'm at home, and nowhere near a store, and double-tap the side button it should just bring up the wallet.
