options for time machine backup

besides plugging in a external harddrive to do backup for time machine, is there another way to backup time machine? i.e something like the old wireless time machine apple used to make.

You can put in a NAS, most support time machine.

Apple has published the spec for network TM support a while ago. Most high-end routers and NAS systems offer a robust TM implementation. Google around for TM-enabled routers.
