Orange Pay-as-you-go card in UK iphone

hi all,

i jbroke my brother's iphone using iliberty. the problem is that his orange (uk)

pay-as-you-go sim card does not work.

is there any problem with pay-as-you-go sim cards in

iphone ?

in case his buys a pay monthly (contract) sim card, will it work ?

or something went wrong during jbreaking?
