I've been thinking of AirTags for a few months now, and thought they would be helpful with locating lost keys and such. Also thought they maybe handy for putting in my dirtbike for some sort of tracking.

I am aware that they may notify someone that there is an airtag close by and they maybe found in regards to the tracking of the dirtbike.. ok..

but from reading here, it seems the air tags can only be assigned to one iPhone/User at a time? What I mean is, if I put them on my car keys and lend those keys to a spouse or friend, they will start getting notifications that they are being tracked - unless they turn off tracking protection? This blocks ALL airtag trackers? I cant have the airtag be associated to them as well? Family Sharing kind of thing?

Also, as long as I am near the airtags, then other people wont be bothered with the tracking warnings?

I ordered a set of 4 airtags last night, and I'm thinking I may have to return them as they may not be as helpful as I would like, and perhaps more of an annoyance.

Family sharing is one of the most popular items on the wish list.

Yes, they're not supposed to send the alerts when they're with you, but others have posted that it's buggy - there have been alerts when people are travelling together (though shouldn't work that way). We need people reporting these to Apple, rather than just posting them here.

You can always cancel and try them another time - but you also have the extended return period right now, due to the holiday season - you could "kick the tires" for a few weeks, then return them to your nearest Apple Store if you decide they're not worth it.
