I'm looking to order an iPhone 6s plus at John Lewis. Does anyone have any experience with buying iphones in JL? Do they provide unlocked phones? Or do they become locked after activating the first sim card?

Yes, fully and permanently unlocked. They also give an extended 2 year guarantee- but you can still use the Apple guarantee in the first year.
