I have a BTO MacBook Pro im looking to order, specs as seen:

2.4ghz i9
32gb RAM
8gb 5500m
2TB SSD

However, ship date is between the 20th-22nd, its not a long wait, but its one of the only models on the apple website that shows "Not available for pickup" along with the base models which tells me it may be in store. Should I order and ship, getting the quick delivery, or wait and see what tomorrow brings?

I would just order it and you'll have it in about a week or maybe even faster. If you wait and they don't have it in the store, then you'll be waiting even longer to get it.

I think that is going to be one of the models available in store, but really no way to know until tomorrow assuming they arrive then. You could order and try your luck tomorrow at the store and then cancel if you find it.

Yeah that was my worry, rn 6-8 days aint bad.

I do too, Im just sos divided
BTO always take more time. What do you intend to use your MBP for?
Network administration and software development. Run virtual machines quite often and LOTS of multitasking so 32 gb of Ram was a no brainer to me. The video card for 100 bucks was also just a cheap pickup, having extra VRAM is always nice especially at that price point, and if I ever plan on running my Mac on a external. Upgraded the SSD as well because I often run VM that takes up space (might possibly dual boot as well) and run applications that are...large haha. Processor upgrade is mostly **** and giggles, compiling code might see a slight benefit from the "burst" (my justification lmao) speeds but as I said, its more **** and giggles and why not at this point.

I'm planning on the $2800 base model and skipped the order so-far for the same reasons - should be available in-store tomorrow. I think you're right that your desired config will be carried in-store as well.

Something to keep in mind if like previous MacBook Pro launches, the website might not update with what is available in store, you may have to actually go there and see what the store has.

Are you sure the models in store are not strictly those preconfigured on the web site without configuration changes?

Look on Apples website, if something is "Not available for pickup" its always been available. For example, AirPods Pros were, iPhone 11 pro's were, even apple watches. If it says pick up XX date, then chances are, it WONT be in store. Look at the apple website, the preconfigured computers are "not available" but do you really think they aren't going to be available? So by following that logic, this specific configuration, MAY be available in store as well. Just like how with the old MacBook pros, the equivalent upgrade was available in store as a "preconfigured"

I ordered mine through the retail store, and I asked what they would carry will be $2399 config, $2799 config, and a 2.3 i9, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, 5500M 4GB config.

Well, it's Friday morning and they're all still showing as "Not available for in-store pickup"

Whats going on:
1. Still too early?
2. Will have in-store, but not avaiable for purchase online and pickup?
3. Apple not stocking these in-store today?

Do you need that much computer? Most people really have little to no need for 32GB of ram, in fact most users can live with 8GB never mind 16. YMMV of course.

Food for thought, if you change your order to get it a few days sooner, then the following month, when all of the dust settles, will you regret sacrificing the configuration in the name of expediency?

Since we're only talking days, stick with your order, we as a society (and I include myself) is so hung up on instant gratification. In this case your patience will be rewarded.
