No slots, Dimm slots are becoming a "dimm" memory now :D
The only configuration is the memory that is soldered permanently - 16GB.
If that is not enough, then you would need to move on to something else.

I'm in the configuration tool on apple.com ( http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MGXA2LL/A&step=config# )and it seems that the "either this much or that much" memory option has been removed. Does the current MBP have DIMM slots or is memory soldered to the board as in the MBA?

Retina is soldered, like an MBA. I didn't follow your link, but think 15's come with 16GB, no changes available. 13s come with 8 but can be bumped to 16GB at build time.

Thanks guys. I've been considering up grading a 15" 16 gig 2011 MBP, and as long as it's 16 gig I'm probably good to go.
