Hey guys.

I'm seeking some advice. I'm about to order a new Macbook Pro 15" i7 Model.
Wondering if it's best to go with the Apple upgrade to 8GB ram + 256GB SSD, or just purchase the base model and upgrade both myself.

The pricing doesn't seem to vary too much, but I'm not totally sure of the quality/performance of the parts used by Apple.

This is my first Mac product, and would appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance!

DIY. You can get quite a better SSD and slightly cheaper RAM.

Wouldn't it be better to get the RAM from apple? Since the stock model comes with 2x2gb of ram and there's only 2 slots, if upgrading to 2x4gb modules - the current 2x2gb of ram becomes paperweight. Am I not thinking this clearly? =X

The mercury extreme with sandforce is indeed probably the best ssd. And if you can't sell the 4gb of ram or make other use of it, you may be right that it's better to order the 8gb from apple.
