I ordered a base 16 right when it was available. Used gift card funds from trade in and credit card for the rest.

In my haste/excitement, I neglected to use the edu discount.

Called Apple, they said I would need to cancel order and money would be refunded in one day. Then, I could reorder the computer from edu store, and probably not receive it until middle of November.

Any other possibilities I am not thinking of? Go to the store on the morning of the 26th? Can you do an edu purchase at s retail store?

I am w/o a laptop, so I do need to get one asap.

You can do a edu purchase at store, you'll need to show proof.

What was the edu discount? Is it worth the time ? If so you should cancel, if not don't

Do what Apple said. Cancel the order, and re-order with the EDU discount.

I would make another attempt at contacting Apple to see if they can make an adjustment. It shouldn't be necessary to cancel (or return) and then re-order. They may be able to make this correction at the Apple Store but I wouldn't wait until the 26th, I would initiate a support chat with Apple and see if they can resolve it for you without waiting any longer. For sure I would not cancel the order until you are absolutely sure that it can't be corrected some other way.

My recommendation is to let the machine come in so you don't lose your place in line. When it comes in, do not open it. Bring it your local Apple Store, and return it. The money on the gift card should be available right away, but the funds to your credit card won't so this assumes you have enough credit limit to support two. Re-buy the machine right then at the store with the student discount. I have done this successfully before.
