Ordering via the Apple store? (G5)

Hi All,

I called my local Apple Store to put in my name and number to be called when the G5s come in (just like I did with the 17" iMac and 17" PB), and was told I have to come in and order online in their store, and it'll be shipped to me. In addition, I'd get some 'card' of some sort, entitling me to discounts.

Anyone know what this 'card' is all about, and has your experience been different? I really just want to put my name down so I can run down and pick one up, as my Apple store usually gets product before the online store ships. Besides, I have to pay sales tax from the online store AND shipping.

I believe they mean a credit card. The reason is they want to charge your credit card as soon as they come in. Some Apple retail stores let you go on a waiting list without asking for your credit card, and only ask for your phone number.

Visit http://www.apple.com/buy and http://www.macprices.com/ to call the various retail stores and ask if you can be put on a list that only requires a phone number. Make a listing of their phone numbers if one happens to get it ahead of the others and you decide to purchase from them rather than the others. The sooner you call the remaining vendors, the sooner others on the waiting list will get bumped up.
