Organizing Mac App Store Purchases

I would like to organize all of my apps that I purchase from the Mac App store. A few questions...

1) Will the mac app store still find them if they are in a folder within the application folder? Example: User>Applications>Third Party Apps>Security

2) Is there a utility that I'm able to organize and search through and open up apps?

I'm also opened to sugguestions and how you guys organize your third party apps.

Why not use shortcuts to your apps, (ie: make alias), then place them in a folder and stick this folder in your Dock?

I think Launchpad in Lion is meant to solve this problem too, making app organization like it is on an iPhone with folders.

I'm going to read into Launchpad. I think thats what I need....
