My wife has an old 2.0 GHz Blackbook and I recently gave her a Dell 2007wfp monitor. She keeps the Macbook in the keyboard tray when it's "docked" at her desk now, so it's closed while she's using it. The problem is that it won't stay asleep when the monitor's connected. We've determined this by process of elimination -- unplugging the various devices one at a time.

Aside from burning energy it doesn't need, running 24/7 in the closed position makes the thing really hot. Does anyone know how to make it stay asleep?

How about just shutting it down?

No thanks, we prefer instant-access to our computers when we need them throughout the day. I'd like to figure out why it's not staying asleep like it's supposed to.

First things first- Are you running the most current software?

I would seriously reconsider turning the computer off vs. sleeping. At least at night.

you can open up console and look at what wake event the computer is receiving - then either post on here how to solve it, after searching for it on MRoogle/Google of course.
