"Cherry," an original film starring Tom Holland about a troubled Iraq war veteran, is now available exclusively on Apple TV+.

"Cherry" follows Walker (Tom Holland), an unhinged army medic who becomes traumatized during his time serving in Iraq, leading to PTSD. Walker's treatment for PTSD eventually leads to heroin addiction, causing bank robberies and broken relationships along the way.
'Cherry' follows the wild journey of a disenfranchised young man from Ohio who meets the love of his life, only to risk losing her through a series of bad decisions and challenging life circumstances. Inspired by the best-selling novel of the same name, 'Cherry' features Tom Holland in the title role as an unhinged character who drifts from dropping out of college to serving in Iraq as an Army medic and is only anchored by his one true love, Emily (Ciara Bravo). When Cherry returns home a war hero, he battles the demons of undiagnosed PTSD and spirals into drug addiction, surrounding himself with a menagerie of depraved misfits. Draining his finances, Cherry turns to bank robbing to fund his addiction, shattering his relationship with Emily along the way. Brought to the screen in bold, gritty fashion by visionary directors Anthony and Joe Russo, 'Cherry' is a darkly humorous, unflinching coming-of-age story of a man on a universal quest for purpose and human connection.
In September, Apple paid more than $40 million for worldwide streaming rights for the film. "Cherry" is available on Apple TV+, which is priced at $4.99 per month, or $49.99 annually. Apple TV+ is also available as part of the Apple One bundle, which starts at $14.99 per month.

I am having a hard time taking Tom Holland seriously after his Spiderman role.

Nevertheless I am interested in watching this... I already know I will expect somewhere "in the background" so to speak to see him make a joke and climb a wall.

I hope this movie will change this preconception in my brain.

True. I like Tom Holland though so will see. Maybe on a Saturday with some pop corn it’ll be a good treat.

You should watch ‘The devil all the time’ on Netflix with Tom Holland in! That’ll soon change your perception of him as an actor!!

I turned it off just over half way through it's pretty depressing haha

I am guessing Apple wants to be seen as „authentic“ and deep
Could be a good way to try and differentiate from the other services.

Or maybe the good movie candidates Apple has a realistic chance of getting, for now, are these types of movies?

the last few TV+ Movie releases have all been slow burn downers. Not saying it’s necessarily bad but change it up a little bit. I am guessing Apple wants to be seen as „authentic“ and deep

They might have experienced some delays with other material due to COVID. I believe. Cherry was mostly done with filming when the pandemic hit, I guess.

If you need something brighter maybe sample some Ted Lasso, I found that pretty entertaining.

I dunno. This story seems depressing to me. Especially after this past year.

Good cinema usually triggers strong emotional response. I doubt people were belly laughing after Apocalypse Now or Citizen Kane.

Difficult circumstances and shared experiences presented in a timely fashion are often good base recipies for some of the best movies of all time. This film seems to have some of that. I'll watch it.

There's plenty of other things on Apple TV that will make you hap hap happy...

Will give it a shot tonight.

p.s. it is surprising there is no NWO theme here, this is strange...

Its drama, it is not supposed to be funny. If it affects your emotions, then it is good movie.
When I watched the trailer some time ago I thought it was gonna be more like The Town. But really it's not like that at all.

You should watch The Impossible then. It's hard not to take him seriously after that. In fact its hard to take him seriously in Spider-Man after seeing what he's really capable of.

I'm kind of in the same boat so we'll see. I do remind myself to keep an open mind as Robert Pattinson has successfully distanced himself from the Twilight movies and has proved to be a quality actor.
