Hey all

Got myself a couple of HomePod Minis and caught the bug! Is there any reason to not buy the original HomePod - other than the obvious (Apple doesn't sell them anymore so support might be limited)?

Thanks

No reason not to buy them if you can find good ones at a fair price. There could be a new HomePod coming soon but there's no way to know when so that shouldn't stop you.

I’m looking for another OG HomePod, or as Apple labeled it on the feedback site, “HomePod (2018)”.

I’m hoping that year denotes a new, larger than mini, HomePod is coming soon but I am personally waiting for the holiday shopping season to see if they release something new to get a better price on the OG.

I could be waiting for nothing though.

I just purchased two original HomePods and they are wonderful. Absolutely no reason not to buy one. The sound quality is amazing and they work brilliantly.

It’s also possible that even if Apple does make a new “big” HomePod that it won’t sound as good as the original. I think it’s hard for Apple to put that level of sound engineering into a product for a sub-$300 price.

Ask any owner of the big HomePod, the OG sounds way, WAY better than the Mini.

Hi! Long time reader, first time poster. I have an original HomePod, and love its sound. My question is with the Home app — why can't I change the volume through it? I can from my iPhone, or OS X Music if I'm playing a song or podcast through that. If that is the case I have to use voice or physical control. Volume level is not in the MacOS Home app. Thoughts?

You can change the volume on the big HomePod with the Home app for iPhone or iPad. I do it all the time. You have to tap the device and it brings up a little music menu.

I don’t know about Macs, since I use my iPad mostly now and my MacBook Pro languishes in a drawer somewhere.
