Original iphone and itunes

I have an original iphone (version 1.1.4) and the old itunes (7.6.2. (9)). My iphone was unlocked with ziphone and was working fine till i upgraded to leopard. Since then itunes will not recognised my iphone. What I would like to know is can i upgrade to the latest itunes without locking my phone and if it does lock my phone is the software available to unlock it and where. I apologise in advance if this has been answered previously. However I am not at all technical and get confused with description of firmware etc. I have looked at various sites and haven't found a clear answer. I am hoping that you can help me. Ta
